Nanna Oland Fabricius is "Oh Land" from Denmark. The daughter of an opera singer and a composer, she grew up in a small house outside of Copenhagen. At the age of ten she entered the Royal Ballet School and trained ballet and modern dance until a slipped disc in her back ended her dancing carrer at the age of 18. At that point she started doing her music more intensivly keeping it for herself as a kind of therapy. Her first album "Fauna" was released more quietly in 2008. For the new album "Oh Land" she went in a much more electronic direction. The absolutely catchy first single of this album "Sun Of A Gun" reached over eight million views on YouTube. Oh Land is touring Europe with her keyborder and drummer and just played a wonderful show in Hamburg. Her dancemoves are inspiring her voice is impressive and the show with all it's sparkling lights, balloons with illuminating faces of Nanna changing to wollfe shapes and snowflakes puts you in a nother dimension for the time beeing.

What would you ask?
This very special project took place in Berlin at Bebelsplatz. 112 participants from 50 nations sat down in a circle, facing cameras taping their answers to 100 selected questions asked by people from all over the world. The answers are beautyful, sometimes general sometimes very personal, intellectual, political or religious, reflecting a diversity of thoughts and opinions. The set is mixed with a collage of emotional images that are edited connected to the given answers.
The "Table Of Free Voices" was hosted by Willem Dafoe and Hafsat Abiola with participants such as Cornel West, Bianca Jagger, Jonathan Meese, Wim Wenders and many more.

„INTO THE WILD“ BY YOHAN COLIN. A photo exhibition which is happening at BRIGHT in Berlin, on January 20th to 22nd, 2011. Main focus of the exhibition is a Black & White photo series portraying the genesis of an Alaia, an ancient hawaiian surfboard made of Paulownia wood. The love for craftsmanship, attention to detail and puristic approach to surfing shown in the series are the same concepts inspiring the TWOTHIRDS Fall/Winter 2011 Collection.

Based in Biarritz and influenced by his surroundings, photographer Yohan Colin has been capturing the atmosphere of surfing and street culture with his silver camera. His work has been featured at galleries and fashion boutiques such as L‘Artnoa, O.K Daddy, Corezon and 90 Grados.

TWOTHIRDS was established in San Sebastian, heart of the Basque Country. Its founders started a surf-inspired street label to be set apart from others. A brand that stands for pure design, high quality sustainable fabrics and a deep connection to the ocean.

He is known for his deep compassion toward the suffering of both humans and animals, admired for his strategic thinking and his knack for combining art and social projects. Dedicated volunteers, like those with his Sichuan Earthquake Names Project, have risked their own safety for his causes. A perfectionist, he attracts a highly skilled and devoted staff at his studio, FAKE Design, from which he catapulted to international fame as design consultant for the Beijing Olympics “Bird’s Nest” National Stadium, a collaboration with Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. This all the more gave him a voice that can be heard through governmantal suppression and censorship.

Corinne Day, a british photographer, worked a lot and became close friends with Model Kate Moss. It was she who in 1990 shot the first published fashionspread with at the time 15 year old Kate, for the british magazine The Face. Kate's sincere expression, no make up, a mix of designer and second hand clothes made these pictures more of an anti-fashion style. A style that took hold in fashion-, music- and designimagery for several years of the 90's : artlessness became art - some called it "grunge".

She started to work as an Art Director at the magazine The Face shooting fashion spreads and covers and later for magazines like the British Vogue. That was when she searched through models polaroids of various agencies and found Kate Moss whom she likened to "the girl next door". They lived, worked and prosepered together for three years. "Corinne's pictures, you might say, made Kate, and Kate made Corinne's reputation." The Evening Standard said in 2007.

A lot of Corinne Day's work is clearly fashion but her aspiration was to document the lives of the people she knew best, and her "Diary", published in 2000 tells visual stories.

Two weeks ago, August 27th Corinne Day died, the cause was a cancerous brain tumor. She was only 48 years old.

"I think fashion magazines are horrible. They're stale and they say the same thing year in and year out."

The venue was no less than Munich's Maximiliansplatz, the music was perfectly mixed simultaniously with lights, spots, fog & fire and the outfits where impressive. Greg Kozo and Pierre Mathieu are "Make The Girl Dance". With the clip to their song "Baby Baby Baby" they certainly drew some attention by sending naked models through the streets of paris...(yeah, go ahead and youtube it) Personally I'm much more impressed by their second clip, shot for "Kill Me" what was released about a month ago. My advice: first look at the clip then play the song at least once more without watching the video; their name is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

is the name of the new album by the New Young Pony Club. Inspired by the LCD Soundsystem, The Stranglers and Gang of Four, NYPC were hot from the start of this electro wave in '05/'06. The bands first release in february '05 "Ice Cream 7" was a limited pressing of 1.000 but sold out in 3 days. Now finally for the first time in ages NYPC releases new stuff and comes up with a bunch of shows; starting in their homecountry the U.K. in March and continuing in Germany and selected venues in Switzerland and Austria.

Instead of coloring the Coca Cola can with toxic dyes and paints, Harc Lee's can would use a pressing machine to make the type logo stand out from its background. The result is a sleek, naked aluminum can.

Information taken from the Global INForM Cases Sales databases based on studies from the year 2007, says that only the Coca Cola Classic was sold times 24.773.757.785. Thats twenty-four billion cans! Not counting Diet Coke and Coke Zero...

By giving up its bold colors, this can stands to greatly reduce pollution and energy use associated with producing and recycling soda cans. Air and water pollution occuring during the coloring process is elliminated as well as the use of energy and toxic dyes. But not only in production is the naked can an ecological revolution, it also streamlines the recycling process; before any aluminum can, possibly can be recycled it must be stripped of its paint. Abandoning color during production saves massive energy and effort during this process.

I never got to meet Katai personally, but i feel like knowing her well. Her art is a vivid way of documenting a life in the canadian countryside. Growing up outside of Calgary in Alberta, close to the Rocky Mountains, forests and native indian culture; I say her art is inspired by rocks and rivers, furs and feathers. About her inspiration she says: "My life is a dream, my family and friends are one and the same.I live in a house with three beautyful musicians who keep my heart afloat most days by constantly filling my brain with amazing noise... I'm ver lucky to have such a massive pool of creative and talented people around me, they are my muses as much as the trees and skies."

"My work is absolutely reflective of my environment. I certainly wouldn‘t be photographing earthy forest nymphs if I lived amidst a series of vast metropolitan. Although, I have definitely noticed a shift of color and space appreciation since I moved closer to my city‘s center. But I‘ve always been profoundly connected to the landscape and the kind of humanity that existed here before everything „happened.“

I think the correlation between my work and my childhood is fairly obvious, you can basically track the progression of my work and pieces based on periods of my life. But that‘s a common thing I assume.

I grew up primarily as a prairie baby outdoors in a small town which solidified that area of my personality... My parents split when I was fairly young however and I ended up moving around a lot between many different cities and towns. I think this contributed a lot to my discombobulated way of approaching the creative process as well as my life as a whole. Those moves speckled me with a sort of color and cynicalness that manages to make things a little more or a little less than real life."

I find her images very earthed and real. She plays with various ways of enhancing colors and changing contrast and saturation to underline and intensify an athmosphere. Friends and surrounding are the protagonists of her pictures and of her life, as she says and there is a lot of love for these in her pictures.

The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai Expo is being built from recycled CD cases, executed by Atelier Feichang Jianzhu.

There will be a 1600 square metre solar heat-collecting tube on the roof, which will be used to generate electricity and "produce hot water, up to 95 degrees centigrade". As well as an "LED lights and mist making system", making it possible to change the outward appearance of the building.
The futuristic cubus will only last for it's time beeing; CD cases made from polycarbonates and thermoplastics can be heated and reformed, leading the architects to suggest that they melt it all down once the Expo is over.

Dutch photographer Wendelien Daan represented by Unit.nl shot for M's fashion magazine in in Reykjavik, Iceland. I found some pics online and was happily surprised to see my pretty girlie friend Tenna from London posing in a dilapidated farmhouse. While the shoot camera tripods and lights were secured to the ground because of high winds, and Tenna spent her time between the motifs wrapped in sheepskin and sheets of plastic. Who ever said fashion was only glamorous?

My favourite asian city is Hong Kong. I lived there for 5 month and lernt to love the hidden corners of creativity in that loud and dirty, never sleeping giant. The chinese are not only very busy, hard working and studious people but also determined to catch up on international style. I don't mind internationality as long one can still see where its coming from; as in that i want to see the asian influence!!! By all internationality and globalisation don't forget your roots.

Wild Thing You Make My Heart Sing...

...and that it does. It's totaly one of my favourite books and not only my favourite childrens book, but i love it all the more today. "Where The Wild Things Are" is an american picture book by Maurice Sendak originally published in 1963.
Max is punished for misbehaviour and sent to his room without dinner, where he dreams himself into a far away place, where the wild things live. Spike Jonze adapted to this wonderfully illustrated little story and based his movie on it. To fill time for a whole 80minute movie he had to make up more stories, not existing in the 20 paged book...i am so excited to be part of more adventures of max and his wild things.

What To Do To Look Good

People buy fancy clothes go for crazy hairstyles and wear painful shoes, as the girls know best. But there are far more ways to either decorate yourself or keep your body in a "presentable" shape...
For example I am thinking about what to get tatooed for a long time now, but tatoos are almost oldfashioned today. Have you heard about piercing, branding, implants, making scars and last but not least cutting your body into shape? Is it a question of taste or a question of what "society" expects?
I certainly did'nt expect to find pictures like those of Daniela Dorz's during my search for new post material. Daniela graduated from ECAL/University of Art&Design in Lausanne. She viualised both; the underdogs, punks and provocatuers as well as the clientel of aesthetical surgery lying on the hospital beds. For her work "Pain Makes You Beautyful" she won the BFF award, an award that has been yearly given away to young photographers in germany since 40 years.

Happy Birthday Vogue Germany!

For the 30th birthday the fashion magazine freshly printed 3 anniversary issues; one black, one red, one gold - all patriotic in colors of the German flag. Not only is a single issue of these three almost 800 pages strong, each is also a special feature on a photographer: the black issue is by Karl Lagerfeld, the red by Peter Lindbergh and the golden by Bruce Weber.
German Vogue chiefeditor Christiane Arp explaines that for the 30th anniversary they not only wanted a simple review of the magazine but also a personal view of Germany and its art and fashion history by these selected 3 Photographers.

Today on the 7th September 1909, a century ago, Elia Kazan was born. Though his family is from Greece, therefor his originally Greek sounding name "Elias Kazanjoglou", he was born in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey formally known as Constantinople. His Family emigrated to the U.S. in 1913 and settled in New York City.
Elia Kazan directed plays and movies, wrote screenplays and novels. He co-founded the Actor's Studio in NY in 1947, that would become school and "birthplace" of many wellknown actors. One of Kazan's earliest discoveries was Marlon Brando who starred in "A Streetcar Named Desire" in 1951. It was Brando's second movie and one of his greatest successes. In 1955 Kazan directed author John Steinbeck's "East Of Eden" and with their cast of James Dean, they discovered the new Hollywood Star and gave his carreer the kickstart.

Marilyn Monroe starred in his "Cat On A Hot Tinroof" which was awarded with a Tony Award for Best Directory in 1956. In total Elia Kazan was rewarded with 1 Cannes Film Festival Award, 4 Golden Globes, 5 Venice Film Festival Awards, 5 Tony Awards and 3 Academy Awards of which one is the Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement that was given to him in 1999.
Hisskills in directing, his impulses in screenplay, forming actors and creating style on screen are of great influence and importance for the history of hollywood and American "moviemaking". He passed away September 28, 2003 in New York City.

It might be time to change both and i found the perfect opportunity for it. Hafsteinn Juliusson is a product designer from Reykjavik in Iceland. His idea of design is based on the idea to be involved with society, ecology and far from mass production. His idea of the "Growing Jewelery" is special because you carry a piece of nature with you, which you have to take care of to let it decorate you.

Coffee And Furniture

This morning i got up early to start cleaning up and arranging all the stuff in my apartment that now is practically homeless, because it has no place where it belongs.
My flatmate Kim moved out to finally live with her boyfriend...brave Kim. She took her furniture with her and basically left an empty apartment behind. Except for the interiors in my room and the kitchen there is nothing left but white walls, hardwood floor and me sitting in a bunch of magazines and books.
With coffee and curiosity i started hunting ideas how to furnish the apartment and found a "lad" from Scottland who's ideas of design are not of the function i was looking for, but extremely inspiring.

Lucky me! I just spent a week in Ibiza, the balearic party island and sibling of the spanish island sisters Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera.

Amnesia

I arrived sunday. Ibizas airport is so nice, small and convenient you can‘t get lost if you try. Arrivals and Departures face the same street and my pick up was already waiting. The first night i spent at the Hotel Garbi in Playa d‘en Bossa only a 5 minute walk from Space one of the famous nightclubs. Ibiza has a great variety of clubs but the most famous and biggest are Amnesia , Space and Pacha. They have unbelievable dancers, performances and lightshows going on, and of course some of the worlds most successfull DJs playing. Just to list some of those; I was dancing to Sven Väth , Armin van Buuren and Loco Dice who celebra-ted his birthday at Amnesia on monday the 10th of August.
That Monday was amazing, Amnesia was amazing and certainly I will never forget my amazing 4 seconds face to face encounter with Sienna Miller ...

1st second she was squishing past me to get from the one vip area to another, 2nd second i realised it was Sienna Miller, 3rd second she smiled at me and i felt my Canon Ixus in my hand, 4th second i thaught „i should take a picture right now“, by the end of second 4 she was already dissapeared in the crowd of bodies moving to heavy bass beats....how shall i ever forgive myself for missing that chance?

The best way to spend time on the spanish islands is to rent a „Finca“, a typical spanish style villa. The finca we stayed at was located on a mountain in Talamanca behind a small town called Jesús. The view from there was more than beautyful and you could see Formentera in the distance.

It‘s a great idea to go on a daytrip to Formentera, and the best way to go is if you rent a boat. Formentera has lovely beaches with white sand and crystal clear water. It feels almost as if you‘re in the carribean. My highlight of the day was going for a smelly and messy mudbath on the tiny island Espalmador, located at the most northern tip of Formentera. Espalmador is uninhabited and unimproved. People come there with their boats or with a ferry from La Savina. The mud has a high percetage of salt, so if you step into one of the mud holes, where the consistancy is very liquid, you float. The mud dries on your body and face, if you dare to put it on youre face, and after you wash it all off in the ocean youre skin will feel all soft and smooth like baby skin. After swimming in mud and the mediterranean sea we had dinner at Juan & Andrea‘s where the black paella and the sole fish are simply delicious.

The day ended with a celebration of the sunset at Big Sur, where the people sing, whistle, dance and cheer when the sun kisses the sea.

I liked Sa Trinxa, Es Cavallet , Es Xarcu and Blue Marlin, those are three of some of Ibiza's beaches. At Blue Marlin you have to make a reservation at least 3 days in advance for the big beach divan beds or a table. The beach is rather rocky and not the type to throw your towel and lie down, but the bar, restaurant and club Blue Marlin is an establishement you have to see as well as be seen at. Es Xarcu is the opposite of Blue Marlin very unpretentious. The Restaurant Es Xarcu is amazing, the fish seafood and wine is crazy good and the desert chocolate cake is 100% worth the sin.

A visit to the famous Hippie Market at Punta Arabí in Es Cana, near Santa Eulalia, held every Wednesday (from may to october) from 10.00 - 19.00 hrs., is a must.There‘s a great choice of the most exotic batik wraps and clothing, tailor-made leather mocassins and a tantalising variety of east-asian silver jewellry and trinkets. It might seem like a short time-warp back to the 1970's.

All in all one week in Ibiza can be how ever you want it to be...you can enjoy nightlife and clubbing as well as relax at the beaches and relish the fantastic food. Shopping is great in the various little stores in Ibiza City or at the wonderful Hippie Markets.

It was hot hot hot... the weather, the people and the music.

Sunday the 16th of August was "Pollerwiesen" in Cologne. As an appropriate ending of the music convention "c/o pop" and the closing party of Pollerwiesen Sound Safari 2009 some fabulous DJs from all over the place contributed their pulsing sounds.

Shumi, Raresh, Cassy, Adam Beyer and Paul Kalkbrenner made us dance all day till sunset and all the way home.

This post is especially for two of my very best friends, Claire and Katie, who are just starting to invent themselves through fashion design. Claire will be going to London College Of Fashion this September and Katie is working hard on designing garments for her application at ESMOD in Berlin.

Once more i am writing to support my georgeous friend the strawberryblonde Theresa Genth.

Berlin Fashion Week has been a great success for her where she walked shows for Boss Orange, Kai Kuehne and Michalsky and finally the press has caught attention. Various interviews and reports on "the girl to watch" have been published. The german fashion blog Les Mads has posted a story as well as L'exposure. Just yesterday she shot with Lado Alexi a Hamburg based photographer who's pictures are often published in German Vogue. Her motheragency Modelwerk is planning on sending her to New York next, where i have no doubt she will rock the shows, just as she does everywhere else. The Girl and the Gorilla love the Strawberryblonde and i know you gotta love her!

Yves Saint Laurent was born on the 1st of August 1936 in Oran/Algier. Many of us will remember him as the revolutionary fashion designer he was and will always be in fashion history.

His greatest influence was the womens suit he designed in 1967 and braught emanzipation into the world of fashion. He was always one step ahead of himself and also a motivated art collector. He died in Paris last year on the 1st of June.

The beauty of a woman has always been inspiration and muse to any kind of art, be it the model of a painter or the model of a photogapher. Manila born NY artist Skye Nicolas blends fashion photography and fine art portraiture to create a synergy of both media in his paintings. His motifs are mostly taken from his own photoshoots, in attitude and composition of fashion editorials or ad campaign layouts, which he then transforms into his intimidating large paintings. These oil and crayon paintings gain intensity though their size, unveiling both the superficial narssisim of the fashion industry and the vulnerable youthful innocence of the model. Characteristic is his choice of colors using only black and white on brown paper canvas.

The subtle sexuality in his creations makes one think about the relationship between the muse and the artist...hasn't it always been the case that in the history of art a creation turns out to be the best when the artist is emotionally involved in any kind of way?...

The Drawn Blank by Bob Dylan

Did you know that Bob Dylan, Minnesota born folk, country, rock singer, musician & revolutionist is also a painter?

While travelling and touring between '89 & '92 he painted and sketched to "relax his restless mind".

These series of drawings he entitled "The Drawn Blank". A german curator from Chemnitz discovered Bob Dylans paintings during a visit to his hometown New York in 2006. Her interest encouraged him all the more to draw and paint with other mediums using watercolors and gouache aswell. His pieces of art were first exhibitet in 2007 at the Museum Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, and 2007 in Halycon Gallery London.

Excuse my passivity. I didnt mean to dissapear, though in quiet moments i wished for something to teleport me into another universe. I was sick i guess; lovesick and disfunctional caused by a broken heart.

Meet my fabulous friend the strawberry blonde, german model Theresa van Genth. Based in Hamburg and represented by motheragency Modelwerk she has been working and walking the catwalks all over the world ...Tokyo, Sidney, Milano, Barcelona, London, NY and Hong Kong; that's where we met as flatmates, to celebrate new years together. Since then her carrer has been on a slowly but constant rise. I am always happy when she's back home in Germany to spend time with her and our friends and of course when she rocks the shows in Berlin for Fahion Week. This time, next to others she walked for Boss, Marcel Ostertag and Michalsky.

Her next stop will be London for 2 weeks and then back home for summer break to go on bicycle rides to the rivers and have cold beers at the beach.

His photography not only includes architecture and landscapes, he also shoots still life, people, fashion and cars - you've got to love those vehicles!!! His golden calves are the customized cars, bikes and trikes that are extremely popular in Japanese suburbia and beyond. These car park heroes of Japans outlands put any souped-up efforts of american or british "pimp my rides" at shame. On his photographs Minakawa makes those vehicles bathe in chrome and light.

Ballpen Illustrations

I happened to see some illustrations by Carine Brancowitz during my time in the art buying department at the ad' agency I used to work for. Represented by "Unit", her agent came with lots of books full of great work by various illustrators. I still particularly remember the impact of her work...I couldn't remember her name though, so I did some research and once again found her great ballpen graphics. Her technique is unique; she started illustrating with only one color at first - blue, as it is the most common ballpen color. She added red and green and later black. Today she also uses other colors, such as lighter blues or orange. But without exception her work is always created with ballpens, and that's makes it so unique.

Some of her recent work is the newest, illustrated, Phoenix album cover "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" and you can actually also get a tour shirt with her illustration of the band. I suggest you absolutely buy the album. It's not only worth it because of Carine Brancowitz illustration skills, the album itself is great!

I listen to it every day at the moment. So there you go: it's like a 2 for 1 deal!

The Sakura Cherry & The Labyrinth by Motoi Yamamoto

I am fascinated by the beauty of Motoi Yamamotos installations. He fills a room with the most delicate shapes in shades of white. The fine lines of his labyrinth creations are endless. His most recent exhibited work is the "Sakura Cherry" which at a first glance looks as if a cherry tree had shed its blossoms all over the place. When you look closer you see his medium; it is all made with SALT. It takes days to create these works of art and only about an hour to "clean" it all up. Nothing lasts forever!
